Charter Fee Information

The charter fee for ORV Alguita during the year 2007 is $3,000 a day. The charter fee includes captain, crew, fuel expenses, and use of ORV Alguita research equipment and facilities. As a registered Oceanographic Research Vessel, Alguita is only available for charters for the purposes of marine research and education.

AMRF Scholarships for ORV Alguita Voyages

The charter fees for ORV Alguita reflect the costs of maintaining and operating a state of the art oceanographic research vessel.  However, it is understood that access to this equipment is expensive and that not all qualified researchers or institutions have the funding available to pay the full charter fee.  Because we strive to make this resource accessible to all those dedicated to studying the ocean environment, limited scholarship funding is available through Algalita Marine Research Foundation. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of availability of scholarship funding as well the applicants demonstrated commitment to oceanographic research and learning. The applicant should submit an application detailing the financial contribution that the applicant is able to make along with a description of the applicant’s/group’s preparation, commitment to oceanographic research and learning, and how the applicant/group intends to use the information gained from the experience. We especially encourage researchers working on projects relating to marine pollution and restoration of the marine environment to apply.
